At the First Parish in Malden our faith is rooted in love. It is the power that unites us all and we hold it at the center of our shared values. Instead of following a single creed we embrace theological diversity and search for wisdom from many sources. Though that always ongoing search Unitarian Universalists share values that encompass our commitment to love, inclusivity, social justice, and mutual aid. Visit us on Sunday to learn more!

Unitarian Universalist Shared Values

  • Interdependence: We honor the interdependent web of all existence and acknowledge our place in it. Interdependence means that we are all connected. People, creatures, and our planet. And we honor them all by taking care of them.
  • Pluralism: We are all sacred beings, diverse in culture, experience, and theology. Pluralism means more than one way. And we get to celebrate that we have many sources that inspire us; and that we make room for different cultures, experiences, and beliefs.
  • Justice: We work to be diverse multicultural Beloved Communities where all feel welcome and can thrive. This means we work for a better world for everyone, and we use our democratic process to make decisions that will guide us to a diverse Beloved Community.
  • Transformation: We adapt to the changing world. Transformation means we keep growing and learning together, and know that this will change us.
  • Generosity: We cultivate a spirit of gratitude and hope. Generosity means that we have giving hearts, that we share what we have, and that we practice being grateful.
  • Equity: We declare that every person is inherently worthy and has the right to flourish with dignity, love, and compassion. Equity means we work for a peaceful and fair world. Equity means we all get to have it.
