First Parish’s Anti-racism work started with a group book discussion of Michelle Alexander’s The New Jim Crow which lead to our congregation voting to display a Black Lives Matter banner. We are currently working on getting a large banner displayed on the Pleasant Street side of the church, but have added a small sticker to our wayside pulpit in the meantime.

The members of First Parish expressed a clear desire to continue this work beyond the hanging of the banner, so the Social Justice Committee is planning various events during the year to expand our thinking and help us take action.
